Suggestion on Roleplaying

Character Description and Mannerisms

Each character is a unique individual and should be treated as such, how they look and how they act should be distinctive.  Do not be afraid to showcase your character and overact on occasion, a memorable character is often over the top now and then. Equally, remember that everyone deserves time in the spotlight.

Fighting Styles and Description of Combat

Players are encouraged to develop and describe their characters fighting style, in most cases this will only have role-playing implications. A well described and developed combat style will potentially allow a character to gain a reputation that will have an effect on social situations.

Dramatic, even cinematic, combat is more fun for all involved in the game and in some cases bonus will be gained for good descriptions in combat. So, be inventive and descriptive.

The Style and Substance of Magic

Spell-casters of the Sea of Stars may choose to personalize their sensory effects of their magic, with the permission of the DM. This may be as simple as a recurring pattern (such as a color or geometric appearance) that appears in all their visible spells toa more complicated style. As an example, a wizard of the Chromatic Order might cast spells that leave rainbows hanging in the air afterwards and a shield spell that resembles a spinning stained glass window, while the Ghostchasers of Taren Kost manipulate minor spirits with their magics so the initial manifestation of mage armor might be ghostly forms swirling around the caster’s body.

These sensory effects have no particular game effects, even on Spellcraft checks made to identify spells as Spellcraft is presumed to focus on the magic underlaying the spell, not its sensory effects. The idea behind personalized magical styles is simply to provide color and diversity to the many styles and philosophies of magic.

Player are encouraged to roleplay the casting of spells: For arcane casters by describing the gestures, incantations and use of material components (if applicable). For divine casters by prayer and use of holy symbols. While bards should give some detail to their performances and how they use that to activate their magic. Under some circumstances, exceptional descriptions will gain bonuses to the spells cast.
